IndiGo Goa-Delhi Flight Suffers Engine Failure, Full Emergency Declared At Goa Airport

Panaji: There was a stir in the Indigo flight going from Goa to Delhi on Tuesday morning when a technical fault occurred in one of the engines of the plane just minutes after takeoff. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the pilot showed wisdom and diverted the flight back towards Mopavale Manohar International Airport. There were 229 passengers on board the plane. Full emergency was declared at the airport, but the pilot made a safe landing of the plane at 9.50 pm. All passengers are safe.

What happened suddenly after taking off in the morning?

According to the information, Indigo flight 6E 2102 took off for Delhi at 9.16 am. As soon as the plane reached a height of 14 thousand feet and reached the coastal area of Southern Maharashtra, an engine related warning was received in the cockpit. The pilot immediately informed air traffic control. As per the protocol, instead of going towards Delhi, bringing the plane back to Goa was considered the safest option. Many passengers on board the plane said that there was panic in the cabin due to the sudden turn of the plane.

Why did full emergency have to be declared at the airport?

There was chaos at Mopa airport as soon as the pilot received information about engine failure. ATC declared full emergency at around 9.30 am. The runway was evacuated and fire brigade, ambulance and medical teams were put on standby. There was an atmosphere of tension at the airport for about 20 minutes. Finally at 9:50 the wheels of the plane landed safely on the runway, only then the officials heaved a sigh of relief. After this the emergency was gradually normalised.

What is the condition of the 229 passengers sitting on the plane?

A total of 229 passengers were travelling in this flight. After landing everyone was evacuated safely. No passenger was injured, but many people were scared by this sudden incident. Indigo took the passengers to the terminal and gave them refreshments and informed that alternative arrangements were being made to take them to Delhi. Many passengers also had onward connecting flights, regarding which the airline is in constant touch with them.

What clarification has Indigo given on this entire incident?

The airline issued a statement saying that as soon as a technical problem was detected in flight 6E 2102, it was brought back to Goa as per rules. The aircraft has currently been grounded and is undergoing a thorough technical investigation. The aircraft will fly again only after necessary approval from DGCA. The company said that there can be no compromise on the safety of passengers. Also, regret has been expressed for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.

Was there also news of engine fire?

Initially some reports suggested engine fire, but Indigo has denied any such incident. Even before this, such rumors had surfaced on the Goa-Delhi route, even then the company had clarified that during engine shutdown, sometimes sparks are seen in the exhaust, which is mistaken for fire. At present the DGCA team is also investigating the matter as to why the engine stopped working at 14 thousand feet.
